Bubble-licious - Just when Parents thought their kids had it all, Raskal L.L.C. introduces the “My Bubble Bag” line--- which smells just like grape bubble gum------ has come into play. The collection consists of hand bags and larger back-packs and they are available in 6 great colors.
These bags are made from a unique molded material that creates a bumpy texture similar to an egg crate. According to the lines Designer, Mary Swan, the material is a “trade secret” she learned when she used to manufacture protective gear for the FBI and TV shows like American Gladiators. This time around, with advice from her 16-year-old daughter, Swan wanted to “just make something really fun.”
The grape scent is added during the molding process and stays with the bags for up to 9 months. The material is also water proof so plans are in the works to introduce a beach bag as well.
My Bubble Bags retail from $20 to $29 and are available at select boutiques including Retail Slut in Hollywood and on line at coolgrrrls.com Footwear News

It won the attention of Examiner photographers who thought it would make a great camera bag.
Made from the same material originally used for protective gear designed for MTV shows and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and for targets used by the CIA and the FBI, the lightweight soft and squishy futuristic mini bag is made from soft dipped, dimpled foam with a 30 inch shoulder strap. Purse of the Season - San Francisco- My Bubble Bag, a deliciously goofy little pouch that Hello Kitty or Pikachu would love to carry. Made by a Connecticut Company that got its start creating products for the CIA, MTV and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”
This is a soft and squishy bag made from dipped dimpled foam with a 30 inch shoulder strap. It comes in 6 colors, all high-gloss and futuristic-looking in a cuddly sort of way.
Mary Swan says the bag is attracting major attention, “Disney, Universal, Warner Bros., Sony even Adidas expressed an interest in the product and the technology.
The bag appears to be designed with teenage girls in mind--- perhaps that would explain the smell of grape bubble gum that permeates the thing. And it’s little, about 5 by 8 inches. This mini version doesn’t hold much more than a credit card, some keys and a lip stick. But it would look terrific with something black and slinky, and when your wearing something black and slinky you probably don’t even need a credit card.
Guys like it to. A couple of Examiner photographers thought it would make a terrific camera bag.

The concept wafted over Mary Swan of Moosup, Conn., while working at a manufacturing plant that uses the grape smell in safety gear to mask the less-pleasant odor of sweat. She started fooling around with materials and colors and, six months ago, came up with a squishy, plastic purse her 16-year-old daughter loved. By September, everyone at school wanted a scented bag, and Swan was in business.

“Play it safe with My Bubble Bag”, made from the squishy protective gear used on shows such as American Gladiators and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now part of the wardrobe department at MTV and on the set of Dark Angel, the purse is sold in six colors, smells like grape bubble gum - and floats!
“Girls Love the trendy, doughy, dimpled Bubble Bag”- One of the seasons hottest accessories with the teen girley-girl set isn’t coming out of New York or L.A. Bubble Bags, a collection of high-gloss, metallic-colored bags popular with Gen Next Fashionistas, are designed and manufactured here in the Land of Steady Habits by a Moosup Company, Raskal L.L.C.
Made of soft, squishy, futuristic material, the Bubble Bags are the brainchild of Mary Swan, a former product designer of protective gear for the FBI, CIA and such television shows as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “American Gladiators”, “Smash-Ball”, and “Battle dome”.
“We were using this unusual plastic to make plastic targets for government agents and padding for combat shows, “ says Mary Swan. “It was stuff to shoot at or to protect yourself from getting hurt. My teenage daughter Amanda thought the material was cool and told me I should make something funky and fun out of it.”
Swan thought a bag might work and fashioned a prototype for Amanda to test by taking it to school. Everyone from the bus driver to class mates loved the doughy, dimpled creation. Swan solicited the suggestions and created her own company to license, produce and market the accessories.
“I used their input,” says Swan. “Tweens, teens and juniors are exactly my target market.”
The result was a line of pouches, clutches and backpacks in such colors as Teasingly Teal, Stunning Silver, Electric Blue, Candy Red and Basic Black. Each Bubble Bag is dipped in a “secret coating” that gives the bags a shiny, hard-candy finish and bubble-gum fragrance.
Swan launched the line at a Las Vegas trade show, MAGIC. Orders came in from Dr. Jay’s a 19 store chain in New York known for its young, hip urban customers: from The Retail Slut in Los Angeles, a trendy boutique catering to a celebrity clientele such as Madonna and Brittany Spears; as well as shops in South Beach in Miami, Hollywood and Chicago.
With in a few months, buzz on the trendy Bubble Bags circulated through entertainment circles as well.
“The bags are in the wardrobe departments of MTV and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, says Swan. “Chicago Bulls player Ron Artist purchased the bags as gifts for friends and family - including Muhammad Alis daughter Latisha and sent us a note they were a big hit.”
Locally, the bags are available in Nordstrom’s and online at www.mybubblebag.com. a web site where teenage consumers can enter contests to win Bubble Bags and take a quiz to see which color best matches their personality. Swan says the bags, which retail for $20 and up, are fun, affordable tactile accessories that appeal to teens because they’re unique and offbeat.
“If you carry one, your’e going to attract attention,” says Swan. “As soon as anyone sees a Bubble Bag, they want to touch them, sniff them, squeeze them and even lick them. They want to know what they are and where they can get them. It makes for some very interesting conversations.”
